GBA Science Fair


As a part of your third quarter science grade, you will be designing, carrying out and presenting a science experiment or project. Your grade will consist of two major parts: a display board and a written paper. The final projects will be displayed at a school wide Science Fair in the gym for families and other students to see. The date of the Science Fair is (TBA) Your project will be due the week before. Please turn in 2 copies of your lab report. (one for Science one for Language Arts)


This is how your final project will be graded for Science: (Check things off as you finish them that way you will have everything.)

Project Plan Sheet: (10 pts)

Rough Draft: (10 pts)

Formal Lab Report: (70 Pts)

  • Creative Title - 5pts

  • Introduction paragraph – 20 pts

    • Why did you choose your topic?

    • Give the reader some background information about your topic.

      • for example if you are doing your project on molecules give information on:

        • what they are

        • who discovered them

        • why are they important

      • remember you have researched  your topic and someone who didn't may not know anything about your topic.
    • State your lab question here.

    • State your hypothesis here.

  • Materials – 5pts

    • List all of the materials you used.

  • Procedure – 10pts

    • What steps did you take, in order, to do your experiment?

    • Someone should be able to read your procedure and copy your experiment exactly.

  • Data and Results – 16pts

    • What happened in your experiment?

    • What did you measure?

    • What were the results?

    • You should have collected data, show it in table and graph form.

  • Conclusion – 10pts

  • Was your hypothesis correct?

    • Why or why not?
    • What did you learn?

    • How could you use the information in the future?

    • Describe anything interesting or unexpected that happened during your experiment.

  • Resources – 5pts

    • Give a list of at least 2 sourced you used. These can include books, encyclopedias, internet sites, interviews, etc. This is for the background information that you need.

  • Necessary components (2.5 pts ea)

    • Title

    • Question

    • GLCE

    • Hypothesis

    • Background information

    • Materials (List)

    • Procedure

    • Pictures/drawings

    • Data/Graph

    • Results

    • Conclusion

    • Resources



You will NOT be given time in Science class to complete this project. You will have time in Language Arts to do some typing. Do to the nature of the project and the Science Fair event, late work will NOT be accepted. This is a large project, and will greatly affect your final grade.


***I will provide the display boards.


Any materials I have, I will be willing to let you borrow. You will be responsible for returning anything in its original condition. You will be responsible for everything else.


Lab reports MUST be typed. Let me know if you need to use school computers for this. We can arrange a time for you to come in. Lab report will be counted as both a Science grade and an English Language Arts grade. (Mrs. Vallimont will be passing out the ELA rubrics).
