Standard I : Technology Operations and Concepts

Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts.

I took my first computer class while I was still in high school, back in the eighties.  It was the first class that was offered to us.  I have been entranced with  them ever since.  I have taken many  computer classes in the ensuing years, computer processing, word, excel, digital video and many others.

When I started my teaching career I taught my first class as a student teacher how to use power point and we put together a presentation that was shown to all the students that worked on it, the other teachers, the interim principal at the school.  The students did a wonderful job learning, and creating.

A few years later I found myself teaching students how to use publisher to create calendars for their moms for Mother's day.   This was for an after school program.

I have always in cooperated computers into my classroom, using it as a tool to show students something that I found on the internet or having them use computers to type papers.  In March of 2010 my classroom and several others in our school received a Smart Board, this has really increased the use of technology in our rooms.  I am still learning about it and will be involved in a workshop on the use and benefit of it.

For this years project, with the use of a website that I created for my classroom, I decided to have my students complete online labs to get them ready for next school year where I plan to have the students complete the different parts of their science fair projects on line.  

I received my Masters of Arts in Education with a concentration in Technology in May of 2010.
