II: Planning and Designing Learning Environments and
Experiences
I planed to have my students complete an on line lab using three labs of different ability levels. I found the three labs that I included in an old AMES education book and in a Holt, Reinhardt, and Winston Earth Science Book.
I added them to my website which had the students visit when they were finished with their other work. the students did an OK job with completing the labs on their own time but the results were not something that I could really take hold of and see if they were understanding what was being asked of them. As a result i went back to the drawing board to start again. The students grumbled at first about having to repeat the lab that they had previously completed but after a pep talk and showing them what they could do and what i wanted them to do they got to work and finished up. A few students came to me after ward and said "if I had known how much fun this would be I would have done them 2 weeks ago when you first asked us" (J.R. 8th grade) http://dameronsclasspage.dm-2.com
I received a Smart board in my classroom at this time so I took the students through the instructions step by step. I then took them to the new mobile computer lab that had been set up.
The students were able to complete a lab with me helping them as they went. the computer lab was a better way to complete the labs then having the students do them on their own. When I had assigned them the first time students who didn't have a computer at home didn't complete them. Here in the full lab setting they had the same opportunity to work on the computer as the other students.
