How did
the use of technology help my students to learn this subject matter in
a way that is more effective than or would not be possible otherwise?
The use of technology in my classroom helps to differentiate between learning abilities and styles.
What worked and didn't work in the lesson you planned?
My
first attempt at this project failed because I didn't have anything
tangible to use as an assessment on how they did. I had to revamp my
lesson plan and the way in which I wanted the students to display their
work, and how we could do the labs as a class not as an after your
work is completed, or as homework. This brought on new problems as to
how to get everyone on at once and to save it on a different drive.
The second attempt was much better, I was able to do a whole class
demonstration on how to use the site and what they were supposed to
do. Then we went to the lab and it went much smoother than
anticipated. I was able to get a grasp on how much knowledge they had
about computers and I could see what they still needed help with.
What
would you change to improve the lesson in the future?
I want to include more labs on different topics that would cover more of the seventh and eighth grade content expectations
How
has teaching this lesson changed the way you think about integrating technology
into teaching?
Integrating
technology was a lot more difficult than I believed it would be. My
expectations of the prior knowledge that my students has was a lot
higher that it actually was. I realize that I have to start at the
beginning for those who need it.
As
a result of this experience, what learning (both formal professional development
and informal self-teaching) do you think you need to continue your professional
growth?
I
need to continue to read professional journals on technology
utilization in the classroom and to continue to adapt my lesson to
include technology in order to differentiate for learning abilities and
styles.
